So what if it's broken?
It's only vital to my survival:
That thing that keeps me runnin'
And I don't mean my legs.
It's still beating
Though it skips like vinyl,
But blood still flows through my veins
From my drained face.
I suppose I'm still walking
In my sleep.
I said I could take it;
Take the beating
I only wish it was physical
'cause I can't handle that.
But this is beyond
My comprehension and fitness.
This is beyond
What I can handle
Though, I suppose I'll deal,
Deal a new hand.
I tried to deal it straight
but you were counting my cards.
You took your time
Just splitting those 8's,
Yelling 21! And left on a dime.
It's not illegal;
No one got hurt...
Just broken.
Somebody fix me, please?
This poem is, obviously, about heartbreak. When your heart is broken, it doesn't seem to beat quite regularly; the tempo skips a beat causing the rest of the day to be off whack. Just like a song; one skipped beat can cost the whole production. But my heart was just gambled away. The dealer's supposed to win; I was trying as hard as I could to be perfect, but you just kept on keeping on. It's too late. The cards are dealt. You can't go back. You can't fix a broken record.

The gutter is awful cold on this night.
The wind breezes through her navy t-shirt
Adidas sneakers limp in the puddle
Reflecting her nothingness back at her.
The lane’s empty tonight as it should be
No one to bother, no one to hassle
Has anyone noticed her absence yet?
Have the Golden Children left home? Doubtful.
Unnoticed or uncared for? Take your pick.
If only one could do without a pair.
She's just another gas tank, cell phone bill
College tuition, hungry mouth to feed
If only she had dumped that pudding box
In the cake; maybe then she'd be wanted.

Now that I've thought of a few topics I think maybe I should try and figure out which one/ones to use and where the story will go. I really enjoy the topic
Gravedigger's Union as well as
Queen of Clubs, but I think they may be more effective combined. Instead I think it should be a family feud between the King of Spades versus his sister, the Queen of Hearts. They're arguing over the family inheritance. This inheritance is investigated by the Gravedigger's Union (spade=shovel, ergo gravedigger).
Maybe the clues to his will can be found in a word search. Maybe in his favorite song. Maybe both. Who knows. For now that's all I've got. Perhaps I'll add more later, but for now my creative glands are dry.

For now I'm just going to jot down a few topics I may or may not write about in the future. Most of my topics come from song titles, though I try to make sure the story isn't identical, or even related, if possible. I'll probably add to it as time goes on, but I'm beginning this on June 11, 2008.
- Gravedigger's Union
- Faking My Own Suicide
- Masquerade and a Mirror
- Cartoon Hero on the City Pavement/ Juke Box Hero
- Poison Brick Army Men
- Other Side of the Radio
- She Talks to Angels
- Cornbread
- When the World Ends
- Spoon (maid witnesses murder reflecting in a polished spoon)
- Big Eyed Fish/ Proudest Monkey
- What if I Stumble? (
- Scramble Discovers hidden secrets in word searches while listening to Dave Matthews Band; hidden messages
- We Are the People Our Parents Warned Us About
- Queen of Clubs (Battle between Queen of Hearts and Queen of Clubs)
That's all I've got for today. I think this was fairly productive...and hopefully tomorrow will yield hefty results as well.
